The history of Silveiro Advogados began over half a century ago, in the city of Porto Alegre, with our founder João Carlos Silveiro, whose legal calling awakened at an early age, and who originated this traditional office in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and in Brazil.
The dream of growing without losing the tailor-made style of dealing with our clients’ needs has consolidated a team of professionals trained within a working culture of going to the root cause of the problem and always placing our clients’ interest first.
Solid principles and long experience put into practice in many legal areas have been added to a visionary search for perfection. Our office is responsible, on a voluntary basis, for the work in establishing major NGOs which are promoting a silent revolution in the social field, improving the lives of thousands of citizens.
“At the age of 17, I was able to accomplish my earliest dream when, in March 1951, I was admitted to UFRGS Law School and, the following month, I started working at a law firm, a place from which I have never left. In 1956, Silveiro Advogados had its start and it has been in operation ever since.
For over half a century, I have been practicing the legal profession uninterruptedly. Even during the period I taught Financial Law, or when I was a Federal Court Judge, or else when I worked as a director for financial institutions and as a Board of Directors member for NGOs, never did I miss one single day of legal practice.
So much time working within the same field has provided me with valuable knowledge. I have learnt that being a lawyer goes far beyond the knowledge of Law and the mere judicial and out-of court settlements. In my opinion, a lawyer must be the clients’ unrestricted advisor, someone always attentive to their words, as well as to their real difficulties, including the psychological ones, which, for times, go unnoticed to most of them.
A lawyer must also be a social peace agent, examining each party’s reasons and carefully settling or solving cases before they are set forth to courts. Moreover, a lawyer must be a nation’s economic development tool, providing the business class with the necessary legal confidence for them to take their enterprises forward.
I firmly believe that this is the only way for lawyers to fully accomplish their mission. This is the spirit I have tried to imprint to Silveiro Advogados’ working culture, which has been followed and improved by the partners who have joined our team”.
